Country Profile:

The Gambia

The Gambia is perched upon the coast of West Africa. Surrounded on three sides by Senegal and with the Atlantic Ocean to the west, The Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent. Though what it lacks in size it makes up for in culture and character.

Should You Hire A Car in The Gambia?

I love hiring cars when I travel. There’s just something about the freedom that they offer that makes me feel alive. As my preferred method of travel, I tend to hire a car everywhere I go, and so when I came to booking my trip to The Gambia, it will come as no surprise that… Read More

Experience:

A Taste of The Gambia

I booked to visit The Gambia on a whim. Admittedly, I knew nothing about this West African country but was excited to dip my toes in this part of the world. I arranged to stay for several nights in an eco-lodge on the outskirts of one of the country’s coastal towns and explored the west of the country via a self-drive adventure. It really felt like driving off into the unknown. Unexpected surprises lay around every corner.

I have written in-depth blog posts about my experience self-driving round western Gambia. You can view a full list of blog posts about this trip here.

It had been a welcome start to our 4 day retreat to Africa’s smiling coast. Although we had arrived last night, we had decided against picking up our rental car… Read More

Our Journey to The Gambia’s Secluded Beach

“The closest ATM is in Brikama town.” The woman at the Western Union counter explained. It was the only store that closely resembled a bank in the village of Gunjur. Gunjur was our nearest village, situated a few kilometres from the ocean and out of view from the main road. A few quaint, colourful shops… Read More

Expedition to Brikama Town in The Gambia

We woke up to another day of paradise in The Gambia. The sun filtered down through the canopy of vibrant trees, dappling the footpath ahead of us as we made our way to breakfast. Footsteps Eco-Lodge was proving to be a very friendly place to stay. Last night, dinner was served for us at a… Read More
