Country Profile:

Seychelles

Seychelles is a group of 115 islands, located in the Indian Ocean, just east of Somalia in eastern Africa. Majority of islands in this island chain are uninhabited, many being nature reserves. The central islands in Seychelles are known as the Granatic Islands, named after their composition of large granite boulders which can be found throughout the islands. These are also the most popular islands to visit.

The Ultimate Guide to Mahé, Seychelles

When I was planning my trip to the Seychelles, I instinctively looked online for some tips and advice. Unfortunately, I was greeted with… well, not much at all. So, I booked Mahé knowing virtually nothing about the island. I found a little villa based solely on price. Did I know what the best area was… Read More

How to Visit the Seychelles on a Budget

When I said I was planning on traveling to the Seychelles, many people said I wouldn’t be able to visit without staying in a fancy resort. That’s how a great proportion of people see the Seychelles – full of luxury resorts and restaurants. I honestly didn’t know that much about the group of islands but… Read More

Experience:

Exploring Mahé Island, Seychelles

Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles and the only which houses an international airport. It has a rugged, jungle interior with large mountains protruding out from the centre. The coastlines are dominated with gorgeous white-sand beaches, fringed by turquoise waters. I visited Mahé for several weeks with the aim of exploring all that this unique island has to offer.

I have written in-depth blog posts about my experience self-driving round Mahé island. You can view a full list of blog posts about this trip here.

Our Cabin in the Seychellois Jungle

Our accommodation for the 2 week period was a lovely little cabin, situated in the forests of Mahé. We used Airbnb to find the cabin and were impressed with the find. Seychelles isn’t exactly known for being cheap so I think we got a pretty good deal on the accommodation for £70 per night. There… Read More

Anse Royale – The Most Beautiful Beach I’ve Ever Seen

The coastlines of the Seychelles island of Mahé is dotted with a vast array of beaches, each one perfectly unique. Most beaches that we saw were virtually empty except for the odd local having a casual stroll through the shallows. We even stumbled across the occasional beach party where smiling locals danced around a smoking… Read More
