In July 2012, I went to Zambia. This was my first trip to Africa and I instantly fell in love with the continent. This trip was certainly an experience filled with close encounters and nail-biting experiences with the local wildlife. I nearly get eaten by a hippo 3 times. I also get followed by a pride of lions! I know - crazy. I recommend this trip if you would love to get to know some hippos and maybe fancy bumping into them in the night.

In July 2012, I visited Zambia on an organised trip using a company called 'Exodus'. The trip was for 10 days and would involve wild camping in the bush as well as canoeing down the Zambezi river. I was super excited as this was the first time I was going to visit Africa - a place that... Read more.

It was the morning after my first night camping in Zambia and we were up at the crack of dawn. We quickly ate breakfast before going down to the river's edge and boarding our canoes. Before long, we set off, disturbing the pristine surface with gentle ripples. There was a loud bellow, almost like...Read more.

The first part of our adventure was over and now we were safely on dry land, it was time for some land activities. One of these was a bush walk. We had a walk with an armed ranger just in case we bumped into any trouble. Once again, I am forced to despair at my lack of decent images. Always, I repeat... Read more.

We spent a few days visiting an orphanage in a local village. It was about a 30 minute drive to get there and we had to travel through a vast expanse of bush on a little dirt track. The village was the first sign of human life that we had seen for a while, other than the odd chalet perched on the edge of the Zambezi... Read more.

It was our last full day in Zambia and we bid farewell to our campsite. We were journeying back to our original campsite (no, not the one where I got chased by a hippo! You can read about that lovely experience here) which we stayed at on our first night in Zambia. It was a long journey.... Read more.
